If you don't mind paying full price, other than buying them from a store in person, the official Loake website is one of the best places to buy them from because they offer a generous 28 day returns policy. 

Sending the shoes back is also a free service for the customer. Of course, the shoes have to be sent back in as new condition. You can't go out on the town wearing them a few nights while performing your favourite breakdancing moves and then decide you want to send them back. But that's the same as any store when returning items. However, the Loake returns policy is excellent.

Loake Shoes Made In India

The smart but subtle Loake Chester Brogue shoes grace us with their presence, and also, as usual for genuine Loake shoes, their high but justified price tag. You may have seen these shoes cheaper for sale online on various websites like Amazon and Debenhams. What you might not be aware of, is that there are some pairs of Loake shoes that are made in India.

These pairs are considerably cheaper to buy, but the quality is not the same as Loake shoes, such as the 1880 range (which take around 2 months to make by hand) that are made in England.

The Indian made pairs (L1 and machine manufactured), while still a decent shoe, are inferior quality (especially the leather and the sole) and will not last you a very long time when compared to the real Loakes made in the UK. I've read many reviews about the Indian made pairs from customers and they are far from happy.

Some even claim that their shoes needed repairing after a few months. Repairing these shoes isn't exactly cheap either. Loakes in need of repair after a few months? This is never usually the case with the original UK Loake shoes unless you've been running marathons in them every week.

The pair pictured above are Loake Chester and they are Made In England. They are available to buy online or in store. Like most Loake shoes they are almost entirely made from Leather. The uppers are made from Calf Leather. They have a Goodyear Welted sole construction and the fitting is an (F).

Lots of sizes are available up to a UK 12 (Euro 48). Great shoes, just be aware of where they are made and don't get tempted to try to save some money, thinking you are getting a bargain, because with the Indian made pairs, yes, they are still made by the Loake company, and they are still Goodyear welted.

However, compared to the 1880's, you are basically buying a different pair of shoes that do not possess the true Loake quality of the pairs which are made in the UK.

This is confirmed by customer reviews, so make sure you check this information out before purchasing the shoes. The Indian examples are basically Loakes lowest quality offerings. Still a good pair of shoes, but don't get it twisted, they aint no 1880's.

Super high quality, the colour is quite a pale brown but still very deep and thanks to the sand coloured side sole the shoes look nicely colour co-ordinated. The black pairs should have had a total black side sole, but hey, they are close enough, and I suppose you can't have everything.

Ecco Brogues have full Leather uppers, Hybrid technology, and a spikeless sole. If your done with the trainer style golf shoes and you want something a little more smart and grown up you'll be hard pressed to find something much better than a pair of brogues that have been pimped up for the golf course and beyond. Best pair of casual golf shoes to come along in a while.

Merrell Annex are a personal preference shoe by Moab GTX, it basically comes down to which pair you like the look of the most. Of course, each pair does have differences in design, and they will fit slightly different, but they all share many of the same features. They are all Gore-Tex, so they are waterproof, and they all have the M-Select Technology, which is exclusive to Merrell that wards off bad shoe odours created by the feet over time.

They also all have the Vibram outsole. So it's no surprise that the three pairs mentioned are almost identical in their reviewer ratings. The Annex just beats the other two pairs by one point (4.5 rating vs 4.3 and 4.4).

They are all equally good shoes. But the Annex are lighter and seem to be less restricted movement wise than the other two mentioned. So they are probably the better pair if you're buying them to wear this summer. Merrell Annex are durable. The uppers are reinforced with triple stitching in most locations of potential weakness.

The flat colour coded laces and zigzag styled side sole are nice touches too. Overall they are a good choice, and dare I say it, they are easily the best looking pair out of the three. However, if you're going to be doing some heavy-duty hiking which could involve navigating up and down rocky ravines or similar, a pair of Merrell Boots, which offer better overall support would probably be a better choice.

They are not cheap, though, but show me a pair of Merrell that are. Now and again sales come do up but it's not as often as most people would like. Be aware of the sizing with Merrell Annex, which can be a bit on the small side. Some half sizes are available.

Mens CAT Caterpillar Abilene Shoes

What a superb pair of shoes. CAT Shoes are reliable, tough, sturdy, and most pairs look great. Caterpillar Abilene do not disappoint on any level. And from a price point they are also excellent value for money. They have a gum rubber sole and come in various colours. The Black and the Brown pairs have leather uppers that have a suede panel at the heel and on the tongue. But the Tobacco colourway (pictured below) have an all suede upper except for a small leather trim on the ankle and tongue.

Cat Abilene offer excellent all round foot support and comfort. But, take one look at these shoes and it's the front foot support is the most evident due to the high sole design. The sole starts out very thick and pronounced at the front and gets thinner at the heel. The total opposite compared to most other shoes. But it looks great. Durability is always good with Caterpillar shoes, but with Abilene it's potentially even better.

They are made using a Strobel construction which means superior inner stitching and a shoe that can withstand the some serious abuse and still remain intact.

A lot of shoes have the uppers stitched to the outer sole, and this is a design that has been proven to be very effective when it comes to durability. In most cases that alone is enough for a pair of shoes to have good longevity. However, the Strobel construction, which the Abilene has, see's the insoles stitched to the upper.

Couple that with the fact that CAT Abilene also have the upper stitched to the outsole as well and you have one very tough pair of shoes.

The uppers are mostly double stitched in potentially vulnerable areas too, so these shoes will last a long time. They are available in sizes from UK 6 - UK 12. Great shoes. Not sure why some sellers are listing them as Chukka Boots though, as they don't really fall into that category. They aren't even a boot fit. Maybe the sellers are just trying to cover popular search terms in order to get found more by customers.
